Objective: To create a pioneering leopard enclosure that seamlessly integrates aesthetics, safety, and a thriving ecosystem — setting a new benchmark for animal habitats in India.
Scope of Work: Design, engineering, supply, and installation of the stainless-steel rope and mesh system.
Materials Used:
26 mm stainless steel wire rope strands
2 mm diameter stainless steel mesh with a 50 mm aperture width
(All materials sourced from Jakob Rope Systems, Switzerland)
Approach & Execution:
The project was awarded to Highway Construction Company, who executed the steel structure and subsequently subcontracted the tensile mesh and rope works to Acier Systems, Jakob’s exclusive partner in India.
Jakob Rope Systems and Acier Systems were involved from the conceptual stage to final execution. The enclosure was developed through a highly coordinated process involving structural design, tensile engineering, and detailed fabrication drawings, in collaboration with a reputed local engineering consultancy.
The structure comprises seven tall structural pylons, supporting a self-balanced tensile system of 26 mm wire ropes and precision-engineered stainless-steel stubs. This design eliminated the need for intermediate supports, resulting in a completely unobstructed, immersive space for both animals and visitors.
To optimise time, cost, and site logistics, the entire installation was carried out using boom lifts, completely avoiding the use of scaffolding. A step-by-step installation protocol ensured accuracy and structural integrity at every stage.
Result: The enclosure was completed within three months and now houses five leopards, providing them with a spacious, safe, and enriched habitat. The structure delivers a powerful architectural and experiential impact — setting a precedent for modern animal enclosures across the country.
